Cultivating the Field
About an attitude when making architecture
___________________________________

Text of a lecture given in the Faculty of Architecture and Town Planning of the Technion, Haifa, in 1993.

First published by this school and subsequently in PLACES. Volume 9, Number 1, 1994.

This lecture was an elaboration of one held earlier at MIT titled "Palladio's Children" and a stage towards what eventually became the text for a book of that title. (See 'work in progress')

The 'study the field' credo, also attached to the home page of this website is taken from this presentation.

"Cultivating the Field" introduces the concept of 'Field' which I brought forward to capture the unity of physical form and inhabitation which is the essence of environment. Its origins can be traced back to the idea of 'Urban Tissue' first formulated in FORUM in 1964.
